Our NW Adventures – Day 3: Whidbey Island

Our NW Adventures – Day 3: Whidbey Island

Day 3 of our adventures ended in Oak Harbor/Whidbey Island.  I have always wanted to go to Whidbey, since David was a part of VAQ-130 up at NAS Whidbey Island and we finally made it! It was exciting to see where David spent four years of his life, but it definitely was NOT what I had expected. I was thinking that each house would be a cute two-story home, with well-manicured lawns, complete with an American flag hung on the porch, and maybe even a “Welcome Home” sign or “We Support the Troops“. Well, that wasn’t exactly the welcoming I received. After driving around for at least an hour, we finally found A house that semi met my expectations.

Our NW Adventures – Day 2: Seattle’s Must-See Attractions

Day 2 of our adventures are no less exciting! Below are some of Seattle’s Must-See Attractions (Note: These attractions are listed in order of driving directions to make the best use of time):

#1 – Pike Place Market: Pike’s Place Market is in downtown Seattle by the Waterfront and is definitely a must-see! We literally go to Pike’s Place every time we go to Seattle. According to the website, they are open 19 1/2 hours a day, 362 days a year and have a variety of places to eat and things to buy in their nine acres!  But these are my top favorites.

Our NW Adventures – Day 1: Seattle & Bainbridge Island

Since we feel like we never get to see or do as much as we would like when we travel, we loaded up the car and were on the road by 8am. Our trip was off to a great start….Friday with the day off (at least for me), clear I-5, 65 mph drive in the carpool lane and great company, until we were pulled over by Washington State Police…so much for a good start.  After he finished giving us our $180 ticket for speeding, we were on our way again – determined to make it to Seattle and have a great time.

When we finally arrived in Seattle, we headed straight to our hotel.  We were staying at The Westin Seattle located in downtown Seattle in the financial and shopping district. Not only does the Westin have THE MOST COMFORTABLE BEDS with their signature Heavenly Bed, but we also got a discount for being AAA members!  My husband usually likes to stay at Kimpton hotels, but we figured you couldn’t go wrong with a Westin either. After we settled in, David had to go to speak at a conference (the whole reason for weekend getaway) and I promptly headed to Nordstoms to pass the time.

Our NW Adventures

David & I recently took a trip to Seattle, Washington and Whidbey Island. As Northwest natives, we have done the “weekend Seattle trip” before…Pike’s Place Market, Space Needle, etc. While these attractions are a must-see for any tourist, this trip was by far better than the rest as this trip was personally customized with itinerary ideas from a past Washington resident – Megan Sweeney!

Here is a quick summary of our itinerary from our Seattle Trip. We had a blast and added some additional pins to our map!

Day 1: Seattle, Bainbridge Island

Day 2: Seattle, Coupeville and Whidbey Island

Day 3: Whidbey Island and Deception Pass

Stay tuned for details and photos from each day of our NW adventures! Spoiler alert! We saw a troll on Day 2.
